Our Purpose

Conversations Lab is a collaborative interview-based project founded by Emma and Abby with the specific purpose of documenting and sharing expert insights on how systemic inequities in criminal justice and public health perpetuate cycles of disadvantage in underserved communities. Through structured conversations with researchers, practitioners, and policy advocates, we aim to create accessible content that translates complex policy discussions into actionable understanding for students, community organizers, and engaged citizens.

Our multimedia platform features individual blogs where Emma and Abby share their ongoing research, analysis, and reflections on their respective focus areas, alongside a virtual art exhibition curated by Emma that allows visitors to explore the theme of justice through interactive gallery experiences.

Emma will conduct interviews focusing on criminal justice reform, specifically examining how monetary sanctions like fines, fees, and bail requirements create barriers to reentry and perpetuate poverty cycles, while also exploring alternative sentencing models and restorative justice approaches.

Abby will interview public health experts and community health workers to investigate how health disparities are shaped by policy decisions, examining successful interventions that address social determinants of health and analyzing how community-led health initiatives can inform broader policy reform.

By creating this multimedia archive that combines interviews, individual blog content, and visual art, we seek to build a comprehensive resource that not only educates but also connects advocates across disciplines, demonstrating how criminal justice and public health reforms can work synergistically to address root causes of inequality and inspire evidence-based advocacy in both fields.
